Frequently Asked Questions

At what age does Preschool Scholars accept students?

Preschool Scholars welcomes students between the ages of 3 and 5. All students must be toilet-trained to attend.

Do you offer tours of the preschool?

Please schedule a personalized tour by contacting the director to book a tour.

Can my child attend Preschool Scholars if they do not speak fluent English?

Yes, Preschool Scholars embraces diversity and welcomes children who are learning English as a second language. Our inclusive environment ensures that all students are actively involved in every activity. Our experienced teachers encourage language development through social interaction, promoting early English learning in a supportive and engaging setting.

What if my child experiences separation anxiety?

It is common for children to feel some anxiety when separating from their parents for the first time. To help ease this transition, we recommend letting your child know that you will return after class. Our teachers foster a sense of comfort and security with consistent routines, ensuring that your child feels safe and enjoys their time at school.

What qualifications do your teachers have?

Our staff includes an Alberta Certified Teacher with a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta, as well as extensive teaching experience in Edmonton Public Schools and Elk Island School Board. The Teacher/Director has particular expertise in the Cogito and mainstream kindergarten programs, providing students with a strong foundation for entering academic streams such as Cogito. Our teachers meet all the Provincial Child Care Licensing Regulation requirements, maintain valid CPR and First Aid certifications, and regularly collaborate to develop lesson plans. Passionate about early childhood education, our staff members continuously pursue professional development to stay updated with best practices.

How can I prepare my child for the Cogito program in kindergarten?

Our Director has substantial experience teaching Cogito programs from kindergarten through grade six. If you are interested in preparing your child for the Cogito stream, please contact us for more details on how Preschool Scholars can help.

How can I stay informed about my child’s progress in class?

Parents will receive a detailed newsletter each month and frequent photos and updates from teachers, and parent-teacher conferences are available upon request. Teachers maintain regular communication with parents regarding each child’s progress and milestones. Twice a year, we assess each student's development, and the results are shared with parents via email. If we identify any concerns about your child’s development, a conference will be arranged to discuss them. Parents are encouraged to contact the Director at any time with questions or concerns.
